The News Page will not just be confined to Show, Lure Coursing and Agility results. There will be items of interest about the Rhodesian Ridgeback and where possible links back to sites relating to those items.

Genetics

The gene for the ridge has been isolated in the U.S. What this means for breeders is once the marker has been defined we can use the marker as an aid to significantly reduce the numbers of ridgelss pups.This is exciting stuff for us!

Agility

On Tuesday 3rd July, Shala passed and was awarded her Pre Agility 2 Certificate. This test is to prove she has an understanding of the positive training techniques used. She also ran a very simple sequence of 2 jumps, plank to table, drop on table and on to the tunnel. Something she had not done before. Now the hard work begins!

I would like to take a moment here to congratulate Rosemary Green, from Chilolo. The progeny from her wonderful import Au/Am Ch Hercules of Parnassus have done him, their respective dams and Rosemary proud. Well done!

17.06.2007 On the second day of exhibiting at Biggenden Mr T. Valli (N.S.W.) awarded Shala Bitch Challenge and Best of Breed.

16.06.2007 Mrs S. Lane from N.S.W. awarded Shala Bitch Challenge and Runner Up Best of Breed at the Isis & District Canine Club Inc, Biggenden.

Agility

On the last Tuesday in May, Shala completed, passed and was Presented with her Pre Agility 1 Certificate. Pre Agility 1 and Pre Agility 2 lay important foundations for the dog. These foundations introduce the dog to some of the equipment, jumps, tunnels and tables. The positive training techniques employed here introduces the dog to how its future training will be conducted.

For people interested in entering the Rhodesian Ridgeback Health Survey, run by the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of the United States, please go to:  Rhodesian Ridgeback Health Survey and click on take the survey.They need information on dogs alive or deceased and you can take the survery as long as your dog was alive as of 1st January, 1995. A very worthwhile cause!

at Murgon P. A & H. Society Championship Show. Shilo - Ketchwayo Madjumdar was awarded Runner up Best of Breed .

Health

Be careful what pot plants you have in your yard. Some plants endanger a dogs health. The root of the cycad plant can cause liver damage in a dog.

6.01.2007: A great start to the Show year for Shala who was awarded Challenge Bitch and Best of Breed at Maryborough Kennel Club under Judge Ms S. Bendixen (Qld).
